Today I´m going to write a little bit about the international youthcamp Ethno and think about simulatities between Ethno and La Banda Europa.

Ethno is the “groupname” of different international youthcamps in Europe for young musicans from all over the world. La Banda Europa is a band with professional musicians from Europe.

I have been to five ethnocamps in Sweden and also worked two years as a artistic leader at the camp in England so I know all about Ethno.

When I discovered that I can play my music with people from all over the world my musical world totally changed. Not in the way that I unite the hole world… no no. Just in the way that my music become so much more interesting when I try its bounderies.

I find folkmusic today both open and closed. For me both Ethno and La Banda Europa is examples of meetingplaces for musicians that are open and interested in changes. I am.

One very good thing with the ethnocamps is that the participants are the main teachers. You teach you music to other participants. Then you have to think of what is essencial with your music. What is hard for others to understand might be obvious to you. You learn much about your own music in that way.

I hope that the La Banda Youth Orchestra is going to grow big like simular europeen orchestras playing classical music. I belive that a La Banda Youth Orchestra would be so much more interesting!!!
